As I recently embraced the practicality of purchasing an electric vehicle after years of deliberation, it served as a clear reminder of 1 Timothy 6:6-8: This purchase, while financially sound, underscored the inevitable reality that what we own often assumes a significant hold over us. Despite the allure of modern gadgets and devices, each item demands an investment of time and effort for learning how to use and upkeep of the material possession. This reaffirmed my long-standing belief that our possessions, no matter how innovative or appealing, can ultimately exert their own influence over our lives, binding us in a cycle of care, maintenance and attachment. In this recognition lies the wisdom of finding contentment beyond material acquisitions, as true freedom emerges not from what we possess, but from prioritizing our relationships within our community and our devotion to serving our Lord.
