Playing the Long Game

Hey Christian fathers! I know that you have numerous responsibilities and concerns as you navigate the complex world of managing finances for your family. Today, I want to remind you of an important quote from Warren Buffet: “If you aren’t thinking about owning a stock for 10 years, don’t even think about owning it for 10 minutes.” This is something that I have been trying to incorporate into my life over the past three years. My natural tendency is to buy and sell based on present market conditions which has caused me to miss out on long term gains.

So I want to encourage you that whether you’re considering stocks, cryptocurrencies, or real estate, it’s important to understand that investing should be seen as a journey, not a sprint. Just as we’re called to be patient and resilient in raising our children, the same principles apply to investing. Short-term fluctuations in the market can often cause panic, leading us to make impulsive decisions that might not serve us well in the long run. By thinking long term, you can avoid getting discouraged by the inevitable ups and downs of the market.

Remember, our faith teaches us to trust in God’s timing and providence. Just as we sow seeds today and wait for the harvest, investing requires patience and discipline. So, fathers, let’s approach investing with a steady hand, trusting that God will guide us throughout the journey, no matter how long it may take.
