How do you turn $1 into $2? Why was I so confused? It was my fellow Christian Father, GC, who asked this simple question, and I couldn’t come up with an immediate answer. The mental block stemmed from the notion that a solitary dollar couldn’t possibly fuel any investment. I quickly went to my go-to investment ideas and started calculating compound interest, thinking, “Great, I will have $1.50 in a few years… LOL.” It didn’t occur to me that this was not a question about long-term investing, but rather a simple exercise in doubling your money in the short term. It wasn’t until GC reminded me that buying a pack of gum and selling each stick for 25 cents would double your money. This completely changed my perspective on the question and reminded me of what small businesses do every day.
The daily hustle reminds me of the old lyrics from Tupac Shakur: “I’m tryin’ to make a dollar out of fifteen cents.” Growing up playing baseball, we always had to raise money for our team uniforms, and it was always centered around selling beef jerky sticks. We had a bag of about 20 sticks, which I later learned cost the team $7. I quickly learned the hustle of selling these beef jerky sticks for $1 and realized we were making a $13 profit per bag. The concept of buying goods and flipping them on the market was genuinely exhilarating and interesting for me. This idea has stuck with me over the years, from selling baseball cards and toy collectibles to now running a small business company called Cori (https://coricreate.com).
The journey of multiplying your money is far from effortless; it demands relentless hard work. The rollercoaster of highs and lows associated with this endeavor is not intended for the faint-hearted. Yet, the potential rewards are boundless for those who craft an astute strategy, formulate a meticulous plan, and execute operations with precision. I am deeply intrigued by stories of individuals who put in the work, diligently striving to turn a modest dollar into an admirable sum. How would you turn $1 into $2? Tell us your current journey.
