Ecclesiastes 11:6 Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let your hands not be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well.
Throughout my professional journey, I’ve always had a burning desire to pursue side hustles that not only fueled my passions but also offered opportunities to capitalize on my expertise and make some extra cash. From selling collectibles I picked up at conventions, to sharing my knowledge through speaking engagements and even starting a small business, the drive to work “extra” hard has been ingrained in my DNA. Perhaps it was my parents, who juggled multiple small businesses alongside their full-time jobs, who inspired me during my formative years. I understand the recent backlash against side hustles and the rise-and-grind culture, particularly in light of the importance placed on mental health and sustainability. Yet, something within me compels me to stay busy, as if it’s a cultural or familial value deeply embedded in my being. So, when I reflected upon Ecclesiastes 11:6, I felt an overwhelming sense of validation and encouragement, realizing that even the Bible acknowledges the significance of working diligently beyond our primary responsibilities. However, as always, it remains crucial to seek God’s guidance to ensure that our side hustles align with our purpose. I would love to hear about your own experiences and the endeavors that fill your “evenings.” It hasn’t always been the case for me in my past “hustles,” but moving forward, keeping God at the center will be driving my decisions.
